India veteran bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin who was featured in his home ground in the first Test match between India and Bangladesh broke a plethora of records which helped the hosts to register a dominating win of 280 runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ashwin was even awarded Player of the Match for his all-round performance. Ashwin rescued India from a precarious position of 144/6 by scoring his sixth Test hundred. He formed a brilliant 199-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (86), helping India to a total of 376 in the first innings. While he went wicketless in that innings, he made a significant impact in the second, dismantling Bangladesh's batting lineup with a six-wicket haul.

Equals Shane Warne's record of five-fer

 

Ashwin got his 37th five-fer in 101 Test outings where he equalled the record of Australia's Shane Warne. Sri Lanka great Muttiah Muralitharan tops the tally with  67 five-fers in 133 Tests.

R. Ashwin achieved a significant milestone with a spell of 6-88 in the second innings, surpassing legendary Anil Kumble to become India’s leading wicket-taker in second innings. Ashwin now has 99 wickets in the second innings, while Kumble follows with 94.

Ashwin surpasses Pat Cummins

 

Ashwin has now become the second bowler with the most wickets in the WTC cycle with his six wickets in the second innings, Ashwin surpassed current Australia captain Pat Cummins. Ashwin has now 180 scalps in his name. He is second in the tally after Nathan Lyon.
