It was a long and excruciating wait for Virat Kohli and his fans, 1,204 days to be precise, particularly for a batter of his stature who in his glittering career has racked up centuries for fun. When the moment finally arrived, Kohli breathed a sigh of relief. There was no fist pumping or jumping in the air with joy, no pointing at his name on the shirt or roaring in delight, the maverick India batter celebrated his 28th Test ton in a rather sedate manner at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on March 12 (Sunday).
With a wry smile on his face, Kohli acknowledged the thunderous applause from the crowd and the dressing before kissing the ring on his neck and pointing towards the heavens. It was Kohli's moment and he cherished it with utmost serenity.
While fans were celebrating Kohli's masterclass in Ahmedabad, Delhi Police put out a hilarious tweet that set the internet on fire.
"Dear @GujaratPolice, Don't book our Delhi boy #ViratKohli for voluntarily causing hurt to the guests. AUS-SOME, game @imVkohli," Delhi Police said in a tweet and shared a Kohli picture with 'BURA NA MAANO KOHLI HAI' written on it.
After toiling hard for 364 balls, Kohli was finally dismissed for 186 runs by Todd Murphy. In his innings, the maverick batter struck 15 fours while the hallmark of his knock was running between the wickets.
Kohli now has 75 international centuries to his name and is just 25 tons away from equalling former India captain and legendary batter, Sachin Tendulkar's record of 100 hundreds. The Indian superstar is 34 years old currently and looking at his supreme fitness and hunger for runs, the stylish batter can still play at an elite level for another three to four years. If that transpires, Kohli will have a great chance to break Sachin's record.
