Team India are currently in Chennai preparing for the 1st Test match against Bangladesh which is scheduled to start from September 19 and the first match will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have already announced India's squad for the first Test match where star players like of Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli made their comeback into red-ball cricket. Kohli who last featured in a Test match in 2023/24 against South Africa is also part of India's squad for the first Test match. On the other hand, India's premier speedster Jasprit Bumrah who last featured in the final of T20 World Cup 2024 will also feature in Chennai against Bangladesh

In the pre-match conference, Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that the management wants everyone to play all the games and they have got a lot of bowlers. He gave the example of India's last red-ball assignment, five Test match series against England where Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah were rested for workload management. Team India will play 10 Test matches till January and Jasprit Bumrah will be India's vital cog for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 where Men in Blue will travel to Australia for five Test match series.

“Want our best players to play all the game but it’s not possible. You’ve to see what’s best for the team and manage your bowlers accordingly. It all depends on the workload that is being carried by them," Rohit Sharma said ahead of the first game.

"We will monitor that, we’ve been doing that well. Against England, we gave breaks to Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj. So, we will keep assessing them. You want everyone to play all the game, we’ve got a lot of bowlers. We saw exciting prospects in the Duleep Trophy. I am not too worried about the kind of bowlers waiting in the wings," he further added.

BCCI have added young left-arm pacer Yash Dayal to the first Test match squad along with Akash Deep and there are chances that both the pacers will be benched because Chennai pitch will help spinners. Team India will most likely go with two pacers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah and three spinners.
