The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to reveal India's team for the much-awaited ICC Champions Trophy 2025 before January 12. According to a notice addressed to the selection panel exclusively for T20s, the team for the five-match T20I series against England is expected to be revealed by January 11.
However, sources told Sports Tak that the Champions Trophy team and the ODI squad for the England series may also be finalised on the same day or by January 12, which is the ICC's deadline for submitting the provisional squad. Selectors will have considerable leeway to address injuries or form issues as all eight teams have until February 13 to make changes to their provisional squads.
Champions Trophy 2025
Eight teams will compete in the 2025 Champions Trophy, split into two groups of four. There will be 12 group-stage matches in the mega tournament, followed by the semifinals and final. February 23 is the date of the eagerly awaited India vs Pakistan match that will be held in Dubai, which is the neutral venue set under the hybrid model policy.
Dubai will host the summit match if India advances to the final. India's group stage schedule includes games against New Zealand on March 2 and Pakistan on February 23. India's opening match will be up against Bangladesh on February 20. The competition starts on February 19 and ends on March 8 with the final.
India's potential squad
As selectors meet this weekend to finalize the Champions Trophy team, it is unclear whether senior players KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, and Ravindra Jadeja will be included in India's ODI lineup. However, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli appear to be the only confirmed additions.
Their roles have been questioned despite their participation in the 2023 World Cup. India played six ODIs after the World Cup, with Jadeja being rested and Shami out of injury. After putting on lacklustre performances, notably a sedate half-century against Australia in the World Cup final that received harsh criticism Rahul's inclusion is not for sure confirmed either.
It will also be interesting to see for how long Jasprit Bumrah's back injury will be keeping him out and whether will he be available for selection. Shami on the other hand appears to be making great progress with his recovery and will be a crucial addition to the side.
