India's young speedster Harshit Rana revealed the teachings he has received from current best Jasprit Bumrah and bowling coach Morne Morkel that helped him to dominate in international cricket. The pacer who made his ODI debut against England just before the Champions Trophy 2025 was added to Rohit Sharma-led squad for the mega event as Bumrah's replacement.
With stakes running high in the Champions Trophy, Indian management put their faith in Harshit over left-armer Arshdeep Singh, who holds a fair share of experience in delivering at ICC events.
Harshit featured in India''s opener clash against Bangladesh alongside veteran speedster Mohammed Shami with Hardik featured as a third seamer.
With the new ball, Harshit and Shami dominated against Bangladesh by picking up wickets in powerplay. Harshit stole the limelight when he picked up Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto's wicket on a two-ball duck. He continued the momentum and returned with economical match figures of 3/31 in his 7.4-over spell.
Harshit featured alongside Bumrah in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 revealed that the legendary pacer taught him to maintain "consistency" and adapt to different formats.
“Working with Jassi bhai (Bumrah) benefits a lot because he has lot of experience. He tells me how to bowl in which format. I picked consistency from him,” Rana said as quoted by HT.
After India's bowling dominance, vice-captain Shubman Gill's unbeaten century knock guided the Rohit-led side to a six-wicket win against Bangladesh. The Men in Blue will now face arch-rival Pakistan on February 23 at the same venue.
