Who knew, the man who saved Rishabh Pant's life two years back, will attempt to take his own life. Rajat Kumar, one of the individuals who helped rescue India's star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant after latter's horrific car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun Highway in December 2022, has reportedly attempted suicide along with his girlfriend.
The man who saved Rishabh Pant's life commits suicide with girlfriend
Rajat and his girlfriend Manu Kashyap attempted suicide in Buchcha Basti village, Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, February 13, according to a report by ETV Bharat. As per the sources their families' disapproval of their five-year relationship drove them to take this extreme step to end their lives.
However, the couple was immediately rushed to the hospital after the incident. While Rajat remains in critical condition, his girlfriend tragically passed away.
"Both used to talk on the phone for hours but since they belonged to different communities, their families were unhappy with this relationship. The girl was set to be married somewhere else. Both tried to convince the family members but did not succeed, rather the families became strict. After which both stopped meeting each other. The two were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where the girl died. The girl's mother has accused Rajat of killing her daughter," sources were quoted as saying by ETV Bharat.
As per another report from TOI, on Sunday, the 25-year-old Rajat and his 21-year-old girlfriend consumed poison together. Their relationship was reportedly strained by caste differences, disapproving families, and arranged marriages for each of them triggered their decision. A resident of their village, Buchha Basti, discovered them in distress and alerted others. By the time their families arrived, the damage was extensive. Both were quickly transported to a local hospital. Manu was later moved to another facility by her family, where she tragically died before dawn on Tuesday. Rajat, however, is still receiving treatment and is barely alive.
Adding another layer to the tragedy, hours after Manu's cremation, her mother filed a murder complaint against Rajat at the Purkazi police station, accusing him of poisoning her daughter.
However, Muzaffarnagar SP Satyanarayan Prajapat has stated that no police case has been filed until Manu's mother's intervention.
"We have received a written complaint from the woman's family, accusing Rajat of poisoning her.
Meanwhile, Dr Dinesh Tripathi of Pragya Hospital said:
"Both consumed a strong pesticide. We began immediate treatment. Manu's family moved her elsewhere, but Rajat is improving under our care."
