Rohit Sharma became the second-fastest batter to reach the historic 11000-run mark in ODIs. On February 20 (Thursday), during India's Champions Trophy 2025 match against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Indian captain achieved the milestone. In his 261st ODI innings, Rohit scored 11000 runs. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar who reached the milestone in his 276th innings, while Virat Kohli is the fastest player to do it in 222 innings.
Shikhar Dhawan on Rohit Sharma
Legendary Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan, who is also India's highest run-scorer in Champions Trophy history was present at the venue during the match and he even took part in commentary. During India's batting when Rohit Sharma smashed a boundary, the former opener used a famous line to compare Rohit with a diamond.
"Kisi ke naak me heera, kisi ke kaan me heera. Mujhe heero se matlab kya mera to yaar hi hain Heera," said Shikhar Dhawan during commentary.
The video of the moment is now going viral all across social media at a rapid pace. Fans are sharing the clip on the internet that shows the beautiful bromance between the former Indian opening pair.
His form was questioned prior to the Champions Trophy, particularly following the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. However, the Indian captain's brilliant century in the second ODI of the three-match series against England put him back on track. At Cuttack's Barabati Stadium, Rohit bounded his way to a century off 76 balls. With 119 runs off 90 balls, 12 fours, and seven sixes, Rohit assisted India in reaching 305 with 33 balls remaining.
Rohit only reached double figures once throughout the Australian tour, but he found his rhythm against the Three Lions in the series, which provided India with some respite before the Champions Trophy.
