Looks like Glenn Phillips as vowed to raise the fielding standards as a moment of breathtaking athleticism punctuated the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai, when the New Zealand star executed a spectacular catch to dismiss India's Shubman Gill. Gill, who had compiled 31 runs off 49 deliveries, attempted a chipped shot towards the cover region, where Phillips was strategically positioned. The delivery, a looping offering from Mitchell Santner, appeared destined to soar over Phillips' head. However, Phillips displayed a stunning agility and anticipation, timing his jump to perfection and snatching the ball out of the air with a stunning one-handed grab which left the Dubai crowd in shellshocked.

Phillips' exceptional catch to dismiss Shubman in the Champions Trophy final was not an isolated display of fielding brilliance. It marked his third remarkable catch of the tournament, following similar feats against Mohammad Rizwan and Virat Kohli during the group stage fixtures.

Adding to his contributions, Phillips also played a crucial role with the bat in the final, scoring a valuable 34 runs that helped his team reach a total of 251 after electing to bat first.

Talking about India's chase, despite a promising start to their run chase, India encountered a sudden setback, losing two quick wickets. After Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had established a strong opening partnership, the Indian innings faltered. Alongside Gill's dismissal, Virat Kohli was also dismissed cheaply, managing only one run before being trapped lbw by Michael Bracewell. It didn't there, ever Rohit returned to the pavilion after scoring a brilliant 76 off 83 when India's scoreboard read 122/3.

Earlier in the match, New Zealand, having won the toss and elected to bat, posted a total of 251/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell led the scoring effort with a composed 63 runs off 101 balls, supported by valuable contributions from Michael Bracewell, who remained unbeaten on 53 off 40 deliveries, and Rachin Ravindra, who scored 37 off 29.

India's bowling attack was spearheaded by Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy, each claiming two wickets. Mohammad Shami and Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with one wicket each, playing crucial roles in restricting New Zealand's total.
