CWG 2022: After Priyanka Goswami, Sandeep Kumar secures bronze for India with personal best effort in 10,000m race walk

The medals keep pouring in for India on Day 10 after race walker Sandeep Kumar kept his cool to stay in the race and secure bronze in the 10,000m race walk event at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022. He finished with a personal best of 38:49.21 and joined Priyanka Goswami with a medal in the same event. Priyanka won silver in the women's 10,000m race walk.

Kumar finished behind gold winner Evan Dunfee (38:36.37) of Canada and Declan Tingay (38:42.33) of Australia.

The other Indian in the fray, Amit Khatri finished ninth with a season-best timing of 43:04.97.

On Saturday, August 6, Priyanka secured the silver medal after clocking a personal best and season best of 43:38.82, downing compatriot Bhawna Jat to the medal. Australia's Jemima Montag won the gold, adding to the country's ever-increasing tally.

Priyanka Goswami on Saturday scripted history as she became the first Indian woman to win a medal in race walk with a silver in the 10,000m event at the Commonwealth Games.

The other Indian in the fray, Bhawna Jat finished eighth and last with a personal best time of 47:14.13.

Harminder Singh was the first Indian to have won a medal in the race walk, bronze, in the 20km event in 2010 CWG in Delhi.
