Indian opener Shubman Gill has made a terrific comeback after mediocre performances against Middlesex in his second game for Glamorgan. On a day where rain interrupted the play on several occasions, Gill scored freely against Sussex bowlers and smashed 91 runs from just 102 deliveries.
ย
Gill came in to bat in the ninth over after Bradley Currie got rid of Edward Byrom (21). He started off cautiously but broke free after the wicket of opener David Lloyd (56) in the 21st over.ย

He did not hold back his natural instinct to attack. When the bowler bowled a short one, he did not get intimidated but played an uppercut to guide the ball over the slips and for a boundary. He played the pick-up shot with ease and over the boundary with flair. He got to his half-century with a straight drive past the bowler.

He punished Sussex bowlers for missing their lines and continued to hammer boundaries. However, the Gill show came to an abrupt halt. Rain played spoilsport and only 41.2 overs were bowled during the entire day's play.
ย
Glamorgan were in good position with 221/3 on the board. Gill remained unbeaten for 91 off 102 deliveries at a strike rate of 89.22. His knock was laced with 11 fours and two sixes. On the other end, Billy Root played a patient unbeaten knock of 17 runs from 46 deliveries.
ย
Apart from Currie and Sean Hunt, no other Sussex bowler could make a mark on Day 1 where overcast conditions could have helped them troubled the Glamorgan batters.
ย
On Day 2, Gill would like to score his first County Cricket century. In the previous game he registered scores of 22 and 11 against Middlesex at Lord's. However, Gill posted one of the videos of his dismissals on social media where the ball was clearly going down the leg side.

Earlier, the 23-year-old batter made his County debut against Worcestershire at Cardiff. He missed out on entering the elite list of Indian batters to score century on County debut. He scored 92 on his Glamorgan debut.
