Former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani is not happy with Mitchell Starc's on-field comments while warning Jos Buttler to stay in the crease. Starc dragged Deepti Sharma's name as he warned Buttler to stay in the crease and not back up so far in third and final T20I of the series before T20 World Cup 2022.

"I'm not Deepti, but I won't do it. That doesn't mean you can leave early," Starc said while an on-field spat with the English wicketkeeper-batter.

As the video made rounds on the internet, Badani lashed out at the English skipper in a tweet: “Grow up Starc. That’s really poor from you. What Deepti did was well within the rules of the game. If you only want to warn the non striker and not get him out that’s fine and your decision to make but you bringing Deepti into this isn’t what the cricket world expects of you.”

Later, he also had a chance to run out Buttler as he had taken an early start before the ball was bowled. However, Starc opted not to take off the bails and gave Buttler another warning.

Giving a second chance to Buttler backfired as he went on to score an unbeaten half-century in the rain-curtailed game at Manuka Oval, Canberra. The game did not yield a result as rain continued to play spoilsport. However, giving Buttler a reprieve led to the visitors posting a good total on the board in 12 overs per side game.

“No, I am calling the batsman back,” Buttler had said last month in response to Deepti running out Charlie to win Jhulan Goswami’s farewell ODI at Lord’s, London.

“No one wants to see [mankads] in the game because they always create such a talking point when it should be about the battle between bat and ball and watching great games of cricket. They always seem to happen at unsavoury times,” he added.
