Gavaskar has been highly sought after as a commentator and analyst for India's senior men's cricket series. The former captain was part of the commentary panel for the host broadcasters during the first Test in Hyderabad and resumed his duties with the broadcast team in Visakhapatnam. However, he was informed about his mother-in-law's passing away.
In 2022, Gavaskar's mother passed away due to age-related issues. Meena Gavaskar, who played a significant role in the upbringing of the Indian maestro, was 95 years old.
Notably, Gavaskar was on commentary duty in Dhaka for an India vs Bangladesh Test when his mother passed away in December 2022.
Gavaskar, who racked up 10,122 runs in 125 Tests and 3,092 runs in 108 ODIs, is widely regarded as one of the most renowned voices in global cricket. Following his retirement, he has assumed various roles in cricket administration, including serving as interim BCCI president.
The 74-year-old Gavaskar has left a significant impact on cricket commentary with his remarkable insights into technique and temperament.
