Jasprit Bumrah was unbeaten at 19 off 55 at the close of Day 2's play.

India's vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah showcased his batting finesse on Day 2 of the fifth Test against England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on March 8. Bumrah took to the crease during the final session on Day 2 of the match, a critical juncture after India had lost wickets in quick succession. Contrary to expectations that India's innings would swiftly conclude, allowing England to bat in the last hour, Bumrah, alongside Kuldeep Yadav, ensured a strong finish for India, extending their lead beyond 250 runs. His impeccable batting at the day's end was flawless.

Demonstrating solid defense and excellent timing, Bumrah not only protected his wicket but also entertained with a series of impressive shots, including boundary hits that energized the crowd.

A particular highlight was a shot off the first delivery of the 118th over bowled by Mark Wood. Facing a fast, full-length ball outside off stump, Bumrah executed a masterful drive past mid-off, sending the ball speeding to the boundary. This remarkable shot sparked jubilation among the spectators and drew admiration and applause from the Indian dressing room, including head coach Rahul Dravid.

On Day 2, Jasprit Bumrah concluded unbeaten with 19 runs from 55 deliveries. Alongside Kuldeep Yadav, who also remained not out on 27, Bumrah contributed to an unbroken stand of 47 runs, propelling India to a commanding lead of 255 runs. The day's play was highlighted by captain Rohit Sharma (103) and Shubman Gill (110) who struck dazzling centuries at the outset, compiling a partnership of 174 runs. Subsequently, Sarfaraz Khan (56) and Devdutt Padikkal (65) each added valuable half-centuries to bolster the team's middle-order performance.

As the match progresses,  Bumrah's contributions with the ball will be crucial for India in the second innings. With India already establishing a significant lead of over 255 runs, it's highly unlikely the hosts will need to bat again. In this scenario, the vice-captain's role as a bowler becomes even more critical. Bumrah has been outstanding with the ball throughout the series, claiming 17 wickets at an impressive average of just over 16. His prowess with the new ball was on full display in the first innings, and he will be eager to elevate his performance in the second innings to aid India in clinching the game and securing a 4-1 series victory.
