The 'Fielding Medal of the match' was a rage in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023. After every win, fans used to wait for the new ways the winner of the in-house medal will be revealed. After a 4-1 Test series win against Ben Stokes' England, fielding coach T Dilip gave separate medals to the winner of the best catch and the best fielding effort.

Skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill shared the medal for the best catch of the series. This is the first time a fielding medal was shared in the Indian dressing room. The medal was presented by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah.

Left-arm chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav won the award for best effort in the field. Dilip lauded him for running from fine leg to fine leg and helping the team with devising strategies as well.

Special mentions from the fielding coach

In addition, Dilip praised Shreyas Iyer for the excellent catch and run out he pulled off. Iyer was dropped after he failed to convert starts into big scores in the first two Tests.

Also, Dilip pointed out something that has happened for the first time in his career as a fielding coach. Sarfaraz Khan who made his Test debut in the series won Dilip’s hearts by asking for the short leg position.

India’s dominating win

On Day 3 of the fifth Test in Dharamsala, India bowled out England for 195 to register a massive win by an innings and 64 runs. Apart from former skipper Joe Root's fighting 84, no English batter could make an impact. First Ashwin got rid of the top order. Kuldeep broke the partnership between Root and Jonny Bairstow with the latter's wicket.

Root was the last to fall as England were bowled out for 195. Kuldeep won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for taking a fifer in the first innings after Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first.
