Rohit Sharma turned up for India's pre-match press conference on February 5 ahead of the first ODI against England which is slated to be played on February 6 at the Vidarbha Cricket Stadium in Nagpur. India and England are slated to play a three-match ODI series in their dress rehearsal for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 which will get underway from February 19.

But Rohit Sharma was left annoyed after one of the reporters quizzed him about his future in Indian team post Champions Trophy. When questioned about his future with the Indian team after the Champions Trophy 2025, an irritated Rohit snapped at the the journalist for referencing source-based reports circulating in the Indian media.

The Hitman is returning to international cricket for the first time since the Melbourne Test. He had a disappointing run in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 and even sat out the final Test. Recent media reports hinted that Rohit would be required to submit a transition plan after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled for February and March. When asked about this, Rohit strongly responded, stating that it's not his responsibility to comment on every media report.

"How is it relevant that I talk about my future plans when there are three ODIs and a Champions Trophy? The reports (on my future) have been going on for a number of years, and I am not here to clarify those reports," Rohit said at the pre-match press conference.

"For me, the three games (against England) and the Champions Trophy are very important. My focus is on these games, and I will see what happens thereafter," Rohit added.

The 37-year-old batting maestro and Virat Kohli are set to return to the ODI team for the first time since India's tour of Sri Lanka last year. India will be looking to carry their momentum from the T20I series against England, where they convincingly won 4-1 in the five-match series.

Notably, India have added Varun Chakravarthy to the ODI squad, and he is expected to play all the matches. Chakravarthy was the standout performer in the T20I series, taking an impressive 14 wickets in five games including a fiery fifer in one of the matches. Chakravarthy might also land up a chance to feature in India's Champions Trophy squad if he performance.

Meanwhile, England have announced their playing XI for the first ODI against India. Joe Root has returned to England's ODI fold and will mark his first presence in the format since November 11 in ODI World Cup 2023.

England's playing XI for 1st ODI vs India:

Ben Duckett, Phil Salt (wk), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, AdiL Rashid, Jofra Archer, Saqib Mahmood.
