BCCI names their replacement.

BCCI has announced that star players Rinku Singh and Nitish Kumar Reddy have sustained injuries and will be missing the second T20I against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on January 25 (Saturday). Rinku will be missing the next two matches, whereas, Reddy will be missing the complete series. Shivam Dube and Ramandeep Singh have been added to the squads as their replacements.

"All-rounder Nitish Reddy sustained a side strain injury in the practice session on 24th January in Chennai. He is ruled out of the ongoing 5-match T20l series. Reddy will head to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for further management," BCCI stated in their release.

"Rinku Singh sustained a low back spasm while fielding in the 1st T20l against England on 22nd January. He is progressing well and the BCCI medical team is monitoring him closely. He is ruled out of the 2nd and 3rd games of the ongoing 5-match T20l series. The Senior Selection Committee has included Shivam Dube and Ramandeep Singh in the squad," the statement added.

Questions over Abhishek's participation as well

Abhishek Sharma hurt his right ankle. The physio rushed to Abhishek, who was clearly in discomfort. The left-hander did not bat, but he did walk after receiving treatment for his ankle and even made his way to the MAC B Stadium's nets. The left-hander's participation in the game on Saturday night is in doubt after he was spotted limping at the nets. India won easily at the Eden Gardens after the opener top-scored for the team with 79 in the opening game at Kolkata.

Surya eyes 2-0 lead in series

Since taking over as the team's full-time T20I captain, Suryakumar has demonstrated incredible leadership. Since July 2024, the squad has played 11 games under the 34-year-old's leadership, winning nine of them and losing just one. In addition, India has now won three consecutive series under his leadership, and they are off to a fantastic start in another series after defeating England by seven wickets. When India plays England in the second T20I on Saturday, January 25 in Chennai, the Indian captain will want to maintain his perfect record.
