India ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma revealed that pace duo Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami will be part of their squad in the upcoming red-ball series against England. Team India are scheduled to play a five-Test match series against England, which is scheduled to start from June 20.
India speedsters Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are currently featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where they are featuring for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) respectively.
"We wanted Bumrah, Shami and other bowlers to be 100% fit for the England tour. If we have a full-fit team, then obviously we will have a great series in England. So it's going to be a good challenge for us in England," said Rohit on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast
Bumrah last played for India in the five-Test match series against Australia, where he got injured while leading the side in the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. On the other hand, Shami played his last Test match in 2023 against Australia on June 07. The speedster missed India's last tour to Australia since he was on the road to recovery from an injury he got during the ODI World Cup 2023 final.
After missing the cricketing action for more than a year, Shami was a part of India's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 winning squad and Bumrah, who got injured in Australia, made his cricketing comeback in IPL 2025. Bumrah was awarded Player of the Series in his last red-ball assignment, where he picked 32 wickets in five Test matches. The upcoming Test series against England will be India's first outing for the upcoming World Test Championship cycle.
