Harry Brook's successive ton helps England take firm stand
After losing the first four wickets at the score of 43, England were in a tricky spot and once again Harry Brook came to the rescue. He once again smashed a crucial century and allowed the visitors to take a good stand. He played a similar knock in the first Test. His knock rescued the Three-Lions from a collapse. He got good support from Ollie Pope.
Brook's 123 and Pope's 66 allowed the English team to post a good total of 280 runs on the scoreboard and post a challenge to the Black Caps' batters. Nathan Smith picked four wickets for New Zealand and was their star with the ball. He got support from William O'Rourke and Matt Henry who took three and two wickets respectively.
England take charge with the ball as well
New Zealand lost their first wicket in the form of Devon Conway on the score of 18 runs. Later, Kane Williamson and Tom Latham did try to build a partnership but England captain Stokes put a break to them by dismissing his counterpart in the other team Latham.
After that England kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and before the end of Day 1, the top five of their line-up were back in the pavilion. Tom Blundell and William O'Rourke will start the game for hosts tomorrow. New Zealand is 86/5 at the end of stumps day 1.
