Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced captain Shakib Al Hasan's replacement for the upcoming clash against Australia. Wicketkeeper-batter Anamul Haque will join the squad as his replacement while vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead Bangladesh in a crucial clash on which their qualification for Champions Trophy 2025 depends.
Shakib injured his left index finger during the high-voltage controversial clash against Kusal Mendis' Sri Lanka at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Shakib was named 'Player of the Match' for his 82-run knock and two wickets in the three-wicket win but he sustained an injury.
“Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers," Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said.
"He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab.”
Haque played his last ODI against India in Asia Cup 2023 where he scored just four runs. He has represented Bangladesh in 45 ODIs and has scored 1,258 runs at an average of 29.95 including three centuries and five half-centuries.
Australia will take on Bangladesh at MCA Stadium, Pune on November 11. The clash will be crucial for Australia as well. It will decide where they finish on the points table.
