After finding creative ways of announcing the fan popular ‘best fielder’ award, fielding coach T Dilip kept the ceremony after the semifinal against New Zealand simple and intimate. However, it was Suryakumar Yadav’s epic introduction of Ravindra Jadeja that stole the show as the all-rounder got his second medal of the tournament after taking three catches at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
“Cheetah ki chaal, baaj ki nazar aur Royal Navghan ki fielding se koi nahi bach sakta hai. Kabhi bhi medal le sakta hai ye (Nobody can escape the speed of a cheetah, vision of a hawk and Royal Navghan's fielding. He can win the medal anytime),” Suryakumar said while giving the medal to Jadeja.

“This is what happens when your individual talent is fuelled by a common goal. I think it's not always being flawless on the field. I think everyone makes mistakes but the champion teams are the ones which bounce back from the challenge and the way we showed that commitment and putting bodies on the line was outstanding. Well done,” Dilip said in the ceremony.
“I think till now we had added a dash of creativity in all the league matches how we announced winners but today it's not how we are going to do it but who and what we are looking at and I think the way we put our bodies on the line I don't think so. I need something else to show that it is a great thing. And all collective effort made it so beautiful and that's the best thing I felt.”
Apart from Jadeja aka the Guardian, Mohammed Siraj and wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul were the other two nominees.
Jadeja was at attacking best inside the 30-yard circle. He took the catch of Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, and Daryl Mitchell. Siraj did not take a single catch but was electric in his ground fielding whereas Rahul took as many as four catches behind the wicket.
Jadeja did not get to bat and he remained wicketless in India's 70-run win over the Kane Williamson-led side. He bowled his full quota of 10 overs and conceded 63 runs while defending a total of 397.
