David Warner and Glenn Maxwell’s centuries helped Australia post a mammoth total of 399/8 on the board to beat the Netherlands by a record margin of 309 runs. After hitting the fastest century in World Cup history, Maxwell criticised the light show in the press conference and called it the ‘dumbest idea for cricketers’. But his teammate Warner disagreed with Maxwell’s statement and he took to social media to share his opinion.

"Well, I had something like that light show similar happened at Perth Stadium during a Big Bash game and I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches and it takes me a while for my eyes to readjust," Maxwell said.

"I just think it's the dumbest idea for cricketers when you've got this thing coming at you quickly and your eyes take so long to adjust and I think we just lost a wicket and the Perth Stadium lights went nuts and I was at the other end and it took me ages to get my eyes to go again.

"It's a horrible, horrible idea. Great for the fans, horrible for the players," the 35-year-old added.

After the match, Warner replied, “I absolutely loved the light show, what an atmosphere. It’s all about the fans. Without you all we won’t be able to do what we love.”

Earlier, Warner got Australia off to an ideal start despite Mitchell Marsh falling early. He shared crucial partnerships with Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne who scored their respective half-centuries. Warner scored 104 runs from 93 balls. This was his sixth World Cup century which helped him equal Sachin Tendulkar's record. After the match, Warner also lauded Maxwell for his special celebration after completing his century from just 40 balls.

“It was a special day for him. The rock the cradle celebration (for his baby) was special as well. We spoke about it during the IPL, it is about timing and rhythm,” the opener told the broadcasters.

The win did not help Australia climb in the points table as it was their third win in five games. However, they did manage to boost their net run rate (NRR) with the biggest win by runs in World Cups.
