Right ahead of the match, New Zealand's ace pacer Trent Boult spoke candidly about the challenges they are likely to face against the Indian team. Despite India's home advantage and familiarity with subcontinental conditions, Boult believes the hosts will be feeling the pressure.
"They're a powerful team, they cover all bases. They've been playing some good cricket but it's been a team that we've enjoyed playing," Boult said as quoted by Reuters.
For the Kiwis, the approach remains consistent. As Boult emphasised, the essence lies in maintaining a positive mindset, sticking to winning strategies, and refraining from being swayed by the game's evolving dynamics. "Nothing changes from our point of view really. It's about going out there and being positive and doing the things that work well. These guys are very familiar with the conditions but they feel pressure just as much as any other batsman or any other bowler," elaborated Boult.
Given the track records of both teams in the current edition of the World Cup, the impending duel stands to be a highlight. Echoing the sentiment of many, Boult predicted, "Both undefeated, I'm sure it will be a cracker."
While New Zealand have had a commendable campaign, registering victories over England, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, the challenge posed by India, especially on their home turf, is monumental. India's roaring success against Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, coupled with the fervor of the home crowd, makes them a formidable team and one of the biggest contender to lift the trophy.
"Playing against India in India, it doesn't get much bigger than that." Expecting an electrifying atmosphere, he anticipates increased intensity and possibly some on-field fireworks. "But hopefully they're for us," he expressed with a touch of optimism.
