Former India star bowler Venkatesh Prasad lashed out at a certain section of fans who argued that maverick Indian batter Virat Kohli was 'selfish' in the ODI World Cup match against South Africa on November 5 (Sunday). Prasad reacted strongly to fans who claimed that Kohli played for his century during the clash versus the Proteas at the Eden Gardens. In a well-articulated tweet on X (formerly Twitter), Prasad said that Kohli is selfish 'to follow the dream of a billion people'.

"Hearing funny arguments about Virat Kohli being Selfish and obsessed with personal milestone," Prasad wrote on X.

"Yes Kohli is selfish, selfish enough to follow the dream of a billion people, selfish enough to strive for excellence even after achieving so much, selfish enough to set new benchmarks, selfish enough to ensure his team wins.

"Yes, Kohli is selfish," he concluded.

On a challenging pitch, Kohli took 119 balls to complete his century and anchored the Indian innings to perfection. After the game, Kohli revealed that the instruction from the team management was clear that he was supposed to bat deep and the rest of the batters had to bat around him.

On his 35th birthday, Kohli made history by matching Sachin Tendulkar's remarkable record of 49 ODI centuries at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. Kohli achieved this extraordinary milestone in just 277 innings, marking a momentous occasion on his special day.

It's worth noting that Kohli's first-ever ODI century was also scored at the same venue 14 years ago in a match against Sri Lanka in 2009. This coincidence added an extra layer of significance to his achievement.

Rohit Sharma, Kohli's fellow teammate and India's captain, ranks third on the list of most ODI centuries, boasting 31 to his name. He is followed by Australian legend Ricky Ponting with 30 centuries and former Sri Lanka's star opener Sanath Jayasuriya with 28.

This remarkable century in the ongoing World Cup was Kohli's second, with the first one coming against Bangladesh in Pune, where he scored an unbeaten 103 to lead India to victory. In total, the 35-year-old cricketer has now accumulated an impressive 79 international centuries, with 49 in ODIs, 29 in Tests, and one in T20Is. Kohli's consistency and prowess in the world of cricket continue to solidify his status as one of the sport's all-time greats.
