Bangladesh will be looking to end their losing streak in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 but face a very tough challenge against an in-form South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24. The Proteas thrashed England to recover from their only loss of the tournament against the Netherlands while Bangladesh have not added points to their tally after beating Afghanistan in their first game of the tournament.
With a prospective tough game on the horizon, Bangladesh were asked to bowl first after South Africa's stand-in skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bat first.

Markram also said that their star pacer Lungi Ngidi will be missing out on this match after he suffered a niggle, with Lizaad Williams making his World Cup debut. For the Bangla Tigers, the return of skipper Shakib Al Hasan is a major boost.
Bangladesh's Playing XI
Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan(c), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Mahmudullah, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud
South Africa's Playing XI:
Quinton de Kock(w), Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram(c), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lizaad Williams
What the Captains said?
Speaking upon his return, Bangladesh skipper Shakib said, "Hridoy is not playing, I come in the team for him. Today is an important game, we have to play our best cricket to win against SA. I don't mind bowling first. If we restrict them to a reasonable total, we can chase it down."
Markram mentioned that Ngidi will miss out due to an injury. “Trying to approach in a similar way to the English game. It's really hot. It took a toll on everyone, it's advantage fielding in the evening. It proves that anyone can beat anyone. We took lesson from that Netherlands game, it's a new day today. We need to try and repeat the same thing. Ngidi has a niggle, he misses out, Lizaad comes in.”
Pitch Report
“Pitch and ground dimensions: The square boundaries are shorter as compared to the straighter ones. You need to hit the deck hard in order to get wickets here. It's similar to the pitch that was played between England and South Africa. A pretty good surface to bat on. The weather in Mumbai suits Bangladesh, but the pitch suits South Africa,” were what Dinesh Karthik and Nasser Hussain had to say about the pitch.
