After defeating England in the semifinal by 68 runs, Rohit Sharma led India have stormed into the final of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled to be played on June 29 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. This is the third time that Men in Blue will be featured in the finale of the marquee event. Indian captain Rohit Sharma got his mojo back while featuring in the Super 8 clash against Australia scoring 92 off 41 and after that he smashed a 57 in the semifinal.
However, India's star batter Virat Kohli is going through a lean patch in the ongoing T20 World Cup. He has scored only 75 runs across 7 innings in this edition of the mega event including two golden ducks. Former England cricketer Monty Panesar backed Kohli and predicted that he would score a century in the final against South Africa.
Panesar also said that India will beat South Africa in the title decider of the ongoing tournament.
"India will win the T20 World Cup final, and Virat Kohli will score 100," Panesar told ANI.
Kohli is coming in the World Cup after enjoying a rich vein of form with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Kohli ended IPL 2024 with the Orange Cap, by racking a whopping 741 runs at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69, with a century and five half-centuries.
Apart from Panesar, Indian captain Rohit Sharma also backed Kohli after the modern-day great failed to perform in the semifinal against England. Kohli just scored nine runs in nine balls in the semifinal tie.
“(Kohli) We understand his class. Form is never a problem when you've played for 15 years. Probably saving for the final,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation following India's resounding win over England in the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal.
