'Mahi Bhai's role was crucial': Shivam Dube credits MS Dhoni for selection in India squad ahead of IND vs IRE match in T20 World Cup 2024

The Indian cricket team is all set to start their campaign with the clash against Ireland in match 8 of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 which will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, on June 5 (Wednesday). Ahead of their opening game, star all-rounder Shivam Dube opened up on the role of legendary cricketer MS Dhoni in his comeback and selection in the Indian squad for the mega tournament.

It was Shivam Dube's stint with the Chennai Super Kings franchise that revived his career and even got him a spot in the Indian team for the marquee event in the United States and West Indies. He credited Dhoni for his comeback and revealed how his support and advice boosted his confidence.

"Mahi Bhai's role was crucial (in my comeback) because if a legendary player like him judges you and gives you advice then it means a lot to any player. When he tells you something positive, your confidence skyrockets instantly. His small pieces of advice has improved my cricket largely,” said Dube in a conversation with Star Sports.

The all-rounder revealed that both Rohit Sharma and Rahul Draid have asked him to stay ready and he might get the opportunity to bowl 2 or 3 overs whenever required. He also expressed confidence in his bowling skills,

 

"I bowled just one over in the IPL, but I got a wicket in that so that's a big positive and it was important (for confidence). Nevertheless, I had been working in the nets because I knew I had to polish my skills to be there when the situation arose. Rohit bhai and Rahul bhai had told be to express myself as an all-rounder and I have been told that I could be needed to bowl 2-3 overs at any point in time,” he added.
