Rohit Sharma-led India will look to take a step closer to cementing their berth in T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals when they take on Najmul Hossain Shanto's Bangladesh at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua on June 22. India are high on confidence with a convincing 47-run win over Afghanistan whereas Bangladesh are in need of a win after losing to Australia by 28 runs (DLS method).
Antigua weather report
Bangladesh's game against Australia in Antigua was affected by rain and DLS had to be used. However, India’s match against Bangladesh is unlikely to lose overs as there are 23 percent chances of rain on June 22. Sunny weather is expected from morning to noon.
Antigua pitch report
The pitch is likely to help the spinners. While Pat Cummins bagged a hat-trick against Bangladesh, Adam Zampa was economical and took two wickets. For Bangladesh as well, spinners were more economical than the pacers. It may not turn out to be a high-scoring contest.
Head-to-head
India have never lost a T20 World Cup match to Bangladesh out of the four clashes. However, there have been closely contested matches between the two neighbours. Overall in T20Is, India have lost just one game out of 13 games.
Possible changes?
Bangladesh may look to bring back left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam if he recovers from the injury suffered during the warm-up clash against India. The Indian openers Rohit and Virat Kohli have struggled against left-arm pacers of late and Shoriful might provide the much-needed variety to the attack.
India are likely to stick with left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav ahead of Mohammed Siraj considering the conditions. Shivam Dube is yet to showcase his big-hitting against spinners in the middle overs. This might be Dube’s last chance to prove himself in the middle over as Sanju Samson is warming the benches.
