Virat Kohli breathed a sigh of relief as India ended up on the winning side in a rain-curtailed T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 game against unpredictable Bangladesh. After scoring his third half-century of the tournament, Kohli revealed that he was "grinning from ear to ear" as soon as he knew that the T20 World Cup was in Australia.

“A good day with the bat. When I went in there was a bit of pressure. I didn't want little mistakes to curb my instincts. I am in a happy place. I don't want to compare it with the past. As soon as I knew the WC is in Australia, I was grinning from ear to ear,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

Kohli stayed till the end and scored 64 runs from 44 deliveries including eight fours and one six. He stitched crucial partnerships with opener KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav to help India post 184/6 after being put to bat first by Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan.

“Good cricketing shots will be the key here is what I know. Hitting through the line is what I do in every format. It is just an extension for me. I love playing at this ground. This makes me feel at home. When I come to Adelaide, I am meant to enjoy myself and keep batting,” the 33-year-old added.

During his 64-run knock, he surpassed former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene’s tally of runs to become the highest run-scorer in the history of T20 World Cup. Kohli has 1,065 runs from 23 innings at an average of 88.75 including 13 half-centuries.

Kohli continued his stellar run at Adelaide Oval. He surpassed West Indies legend Viv Richards tally of runs as well to become the second-highest run-scorer for a non-Australian batter at the venue. Kohli is 34 runs away from breaking Brian Lara's record (940) of most runs at Adelaide for a non-Australian batter.

Kohli is currently the leading run-scorer in the ongoing tournament. He has 220 runs from four innings at an average of 220 including three half-centuries.
