Ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup, the host nation of Australia are stuck with a wicketkeeping dilemma after they lost Josh Inglis to a  hand injury following a golfing accident on Wednesday, October 19. To replace the backup option, the Australians have decided to call up in-form all-rounder Cameron Green, with only Matthew Wade remaining as their specialist wicketkeeper heading into their first Super 12 match on Saturday, October 21.

However, the skipper of the side Aaron Finch does not seem too worried about the lack of a backup, and instead, said that explosive opener David Warner is among the many options to take up the gloves in case Wade is ruled out of the tournament

"Probably, David Warner I would think, he did a little bit of practice yesterday. Myself, maybe captaining and keeping, when you haven't done it before, it's a little bit tougher. Maybe Mitchell Starc can bowl a few upfront, take the gloves in the middle and then bowl again at the end. But probably David, that's a risk we are prepared to take at the moment," Finch was quoted as saying in the pre-match press conference.

The 2021 T20 World Cup-winning captain also confirmed that Green will not be a part of the game against the seventh edition's other finalists in New Zealand. Adding to this, Finch also said that his team picked Green as Inglis's replacement to give their side more balance.

"No, I don’t think so. He has just arrived this morning from Perth. He has come in as a cover. We took the risk of not going in with the extra keeper, which obviously has a degree of risk to it. But we feel Cam gives a bit better balance to the squad," he said.

He also reiterated his own batting position, despite Australia's shuffling in the last couple of T20I series, “I will open the batting, but we don’t have a team just yet,” Finch stated.

On the chance of Mitchell Marsh as a bowling option for Australia, Finch said, “He had a solid bowl yesterday and he pulled up really well. We are hoping and keeping our fingers crossed.”

Australia will open their campaign against New Zealand in a repeat of the 2021 T20 World Cup final. The first of the Super 12 match against New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
