Team India had an unpleasant T20 World Cup 2021 campaign and many questions were raised regarding the selection of players. There were some surprise omissions from the team which raised eyebrows of many cricket experts. Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who was considered a sure candidate to play the World Cup in United Arab Emirates (UAE) was also dropped from the squad and Rahul Chahar was selected ahead of him.

However, the leggie has been recalled for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand and will now play under the leadership of newly-appointed captain Rohit Sharma. Ahead of the three-T20I series, Chahal has opened up on his omission from the World Cup squad and has said that he was down for two-three days after the disappointing news.

“Got dropped for such a marquee event”

“I was not dropped in four years and then I got dropped for such a marquee event. I felt really bad. I was down for two-three days. But then I knew the second leg of the IPL was still around the corner. I went back to my coaches and spoke to them a lot. My wife and family were constantly encouraging me. My fans kept putting out motivational posts. That buoyed me. I decided to back my strengths and overcome my confusion. I couldn’t have sulked for long because that would have impacted my IPL form” the 31-year-old told Times of India.

“Our relationship is beyond our cricket”

Chahal will now play in T20Is under Rohit. Chahal revealed that he shares a good bond and have played under him when MI won their maiden IPL title back in 2013. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) spinner also said that his bond with the new captain is beyond cricket.

“Whenever we are on the field, I always share my views with him like the time we got Kuldeep to bowl from a certain end to Babar Azam in the 2019 World Cup and got him out. Our relationship is beyond our cricket. That helps on the field too when you trust someone so much. It’s always good to know that if I share something with him, there will be a positive response and vibe,” the leggie added.
