Babar Azam of Pakistan leads his players out to field during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup India 2023 warm up match between New Zealand and Pakistan at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on September 29, 2023 in Hyderabad, India.

Highlights:

The Kiwi side achieved the target in just 43.4 overs, thanks to explosive innings from Rachin Ravindra (97 off 72).

In an entertaining 2023 ODI World Cup warm-up game, New Zealand showcased their formidable batting prowess, effortlessly chasing down a target of 346 runs set by Pakistan. This stellar performance came alive on Friday (September 29), where Kane Williamson marked a splendid return to competitive cricket after a six-month hiatus, further solidifying New Zealand's reputation as a cricketing force.

Pakistan, batting first, set a daunting target with outstanding performances from key batters. Mohammad Rizwan led the way with a commendable 103 runs (retired hurt) from 91 deliveries, while skipper Babar Azam and Saud Shaukeel contributed with scores of 80 and 75 runs, respectively. Their combined efforts steered Pakistan to a robust 345/5 in their 50 overs.

Answering this challenge, New Zealand's response was commanding. The Kiwi side achieved the target in just 43.4 overs, thanks to explosive innings from Rachin Ravindra (97 off 72), skipper Williamson (54 off 50), Daryl Mitchell (59 retired hurt off 57), and Mark Chapman's unbeaten 65 runs from 41 balls.

Though the warm-up allowed teams to tap into their full squads, New Zealand operated with 14 players, awaiting Tim Southee's return to the side. Ravindra's fiery batting at the opening slot, replacing Will Young, introduced an exciting opening option to complement Devon Conway.

Notably, Williamson, recovering from a knee injury sustained during the IPL, showcased his impeccable batting finesse. His splendid half-century against Pakistan's bowling attack hinted at his readiness for the tournament. A couple of exquisite shots off Haris Rauf confirmed he's nearing peak form.

On the bowling front, Pakistan had a challenging day. Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali had their spells, but couldn't curtail the Kiwi batters. Shaheen Afridi remained absent from the bowling lineup, and the Pakistani bowlers, on the whole, had much introspection to do before the main event.

Babar Azam's classic drives lit up the match, which took place behind closed doors due to the concurrent Ganesh idol immersion festivities.

All in all, the game offered a sneak peek into what to expect in the ODI World Cup 2023, hinting at high-octane matches and stellar performances from the world's best.
