Jemimah Rodrigues played a crucial role in India's victory over West Indies in a warm-up match for the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 on September 29.

Jemimah Rodrigues anchored India's innings with a steady 52-run knock, including five boundaries, as they set a target of 141 runs. Yastika Bhatia and openers Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma also contributed to India's total.

 

 

West Indies perish under pressure

West Indies struggled in their chase of 142, managing to score only 121 runs for 8 wickets. Chinelle Henry top-scored with an unbeaten 59, while Shemaine Campbelle and Afy Fletcher tried to stabilize the innings but were unable to guide West Indies to victory. India's bowling attack performed well, with Pooja Vastrakar taking three wickets and Deepti Sharma taking two. Renuka Singh, Asha Sobhana, and Radha Yadav also claimed wickets. Hayley Matthews was the standout bowler for West Indies, taking four wickets. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on October 3, with India facing New Zealand in their opening match on October 4.

 

Australia down England

 

In other match, England suffered a convincing defeat against defending champions Australia in their opening T20 World Cup warm-up match in Dubai. Despite a promising start in their chase of 163, England's batting collapsed, losing six wickets for 15 runs in five overs. Alice Capsey was the only England batter to score a significant number of runs, top-scoring with 40. England was eventually bowled out for 129, losing by 33 runs. The T20 World Cup begins on Thursday, October 3, with Bangladesh facing Scotland. England's first match is against Bangladesh on Saturday, October 5.

Australia's total of 162-6 was built on Beth Mooney's 50-run innings and contributions from all-rounders Tahlia McGrath and Ash Gardner. England's Lauren Bell was the most effective bowler, taking two wickets. Nat Sciver-Brunt and spinners Sophie Ecclestone, Sarah Glenn, and Charlie Dean also claimed wickets.
