How Pratika Rawal gets a World Cup medal

The image, taken during an official team photograph with President Droupadi Murmu, led to speculation that the ICC might have changed its rules to allow players who were ruled out due to injury to receive medals as well. However, Pratika who got injured before the semifinal, revealed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah messaged their team manager that he wanted to make arrangements to get Pratika a medal.

“Jay Shah texted our manager that I want to make arrangements to get medal for Pratika," Rawal told CNN News18. “So, finally, I now do have my own medal. The first time I opened it up (medal given to her by support staff) and, I looked towards it, I was almost in tears. I’m not a person who cries a lot but that emotion was real, that feeling of join us."

Pratika also revealed that Shah had earlier assured her she would receive a medal, though it might take some time to arrive.

“Jay Shah told us that he is asking the ICC if they can send a medal. So that medal is going to take some while, to reach me. So, one of the support staff gave me their medal to wear for now. Consider that I have my own. So, the medal is on the way," she said.

Notably, Pratika got injured during India's dead rubber clash against Bangladesh before the semifinal of the mega event, and the BCCI announced Shefali Verma as her replacement for the semis and title decider. India defeated South Africa to lift their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup title last Sunday, post which all 15 members of the winning squad, including Rawal’s replacement Shafali Verma, received their medals.
