Australia captain Alyssa Healy has been ruled out of the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 clash against England due to a calf injury. On October 22, Tahlia McGrath will lead Australia against an Nat-Sciver Brunt's England at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.
In the official statement, it has been characterised as a "minor calf strain' she suffered during a training session on October 19. The defending champions will have their fingers tied that Healy recovers in time for the semifinals.
Healy has had her bout with injuries. But, she overcame them after a scratchy start to the tournament with the bat. Against India, she scored a match-winning 142 in the record-breaking run chase. She followed it up with an unbeaten 113 in the 10-wicket victory against Bangladesh. She is currently the leading run-scorer in the tournament.
Who will replace Healy in the playing XI?
Australia are currently at the top of the points table with nine points from five games. They have qualified for the semifinals already. It is a possibility that Healy may be rested as a precautionary measure.
In all likeliness, Georgia Voll is set to open alongside Phoebe Litchfield in the absence of Healy. Voll has a fantastic ODI record. The 22-year-old has played five ODIs and scored 254 runs at an average of 63.50, featuring a century and fifty each. Her strike rate is 109.48.
After the clash against England, Australia are scheduled to take on South Africa on October 25 at the same venue. It is yet to be seen whether Healy will be available to play against Laura Wolvaardt's side.
