Australia announce squad for ODI series against India, no place for Marnus Labuschagne, 29-year-old set for debut

Cricket Australia (CA) on October 7 announced a 15-member squad for the three-ODI series against Shubman Gill-led India. Experienced campaigner Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the squad despite a century in the ongoing Sheffield Shield match. His Queensland teammate, 29-year-old Matt Renshaw has been included in the ODI squad. Renshaw is yet to make his ODI debut. 

In the absence of an unfit Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh will continue to lead the ODI side. Cooper Connolly has been retained in the squad following his fifer against South Africa. Josh Inglis has returned to the squad after recovering from calf strain. Matthew Short and Mitchell Owen have returned as well after missing the ODI series against South Africa. Owen is set to make his ODI debut.

It will be Mitchell Starc’s first appearance in international cricket since he announced his retirement from the T20Is. 

"We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket," chief selector George Bailey said.

Wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has been picked in the squad but he will miss the opening game of the series on October 19 at Perth Stadium as he will feature in the Sheffield Shield game. 

Along with Labuschagne, all-rounder Aaron Hardie and left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann have been left out of the ODI squad too.

Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Renshaw, Matthew Short, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa.

Renshaw's One-Day record

Renshaw has played 76 List A (One-Day) matches. From 74 innings, he has scored 2,756 runs at an average of 41.13, including seven centuries and 17 fifties. His strike rate in the format is 95.03.

The southpaw has represented Australia in 14 Tests, scoring 645 runs at an average of 29.31, including a century and three fifties.

Labuschagne's ODI record vs India

Labuschagne has a decent record against India. From 13 innings, he has scored 474 runs at an average of 39.50. He has scored four fifties against India in the format.
