Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan suggested the Shubman Gill-led side add Kuldeep Yadav to the playing XI after their seven-wicket defeat against Australia in 1st ODI at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Kuldeep, who played a crucial role for India in the Asia Cup 2025, was benched in the first ODI as management picked Nitish Kumar Reddy to add batting depth against the Mitchell Marsh-led side.

After India's defeat, Pathan took his 'X', formerly known as Twitter to urge the Gill-led side for Kuldeep's addition in the playing XI.

Kuldeep Yadav's last cricketing outing

Kuldeep is coming after a brilliant performance in the Asia Cup 2025. The Uttar Pradesh spinner ended his campaign as the highest wicket-taker in the continental tournament with 17 scalps in seven matches. The second ODI between India and Australia will take place on October 23 at Adelaide Oval.

India vs Australia 1st ODI match report

Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh anchored the innings as hosts defeated India by seven wickets in the rain-affected first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. After being asked to bat, India managed to score 136 runs after the clash was reduced to  26-over-a-side game after rain interrupted proceedings for the third time, with the visitors struggling at 52 for four in 16.4 overs.

After getting a target of 131 under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, Australia completed the task in 21.1 overs, with Marsh 46 not out off 52 balls emerging as the top-scorer. Wicketkeeper batter Josh Philippe chipped in with a brisk 29-ball 37 to swing the game Australia's way.
