IND vs AUS 3rd ODI: Adam Zampa just four wickets away from major milestone, poised to become only the second Australian spinner to achieve remarkable feat

Australia spinner Adam Zampa is on the verge of reaching a new milestone after his match-winning spell against India in the second ODI in Adelaide. The leg-spinner needs just four wickets to become only the second Australian spinner to reach the 200-wicket mark in One-Day Internationals.

Zampa to become second after Shane Warne

Zampa was at his peak in the 2nd ODI, rattling Indian batters with his variations as he returned impressive figures of 4/60 in his 10 overs. He was awarded Player of the Match after Australia defeated India by two wickets to win the clash. 

With 196 wickets from 115 ODIs, the 33-year-old will have another opportunity to etch his name in the record books when India faces Australia in the third ODI, which will take place on October 25 at Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. Notably, Shane Warne remains Australia's leading ODI spinner with 291 wickets.

India vs Australia 2nd ODI

After being asked to bat first, India had a tough start. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill began cautiously, but Xavier Bartlett (3/39) struck early, removing Gill for 9 and Virat Kohli for a duck, leaving India struggling at 17/2.

Rohit then steadied the innings with vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, adding a crucial 118-run partnership. Iyer played a composed knock of 61 from 77 balls, including seven boundaries. Axar Patel also made an important contribution in the middle order, scoring 44 off 41 balls with five fours, continuing his solid form at number five.

However, Australia’s Adam Zampa turned the game once again with an impressive spell of 4/60, breaking India’s momentum and reducing them to 226/8. Towards the end, Harshit Rana (24* off 18 balls) and Arshdeep Singh (13) provided a late push, adding 37 valuable runs for the ninth wicket to take India to 264/9 in their 50 overs.

While chasing, Australia lost two early wickets and were 54/2, but the middle order ensured they stayed on track. Matt Short led the charge with 74 off 78 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes. Cooper Connolly remained unbeaten on 61 from 53 balls, and Mitchell Owen added a quick 36 off 23 deliveries with two fours and three sixes. Despite some resistance from Washington Sundar (2/37), Arshdeep (2/41), and Harshit (2/59), Australia comfortably chased down the target.

Adam Zampa was named Player of the Match for his four-wicket haul, as Australia sealed the series with a 2–0 lead.
