Cricket Australia on October 7 announced their 14-member squad for first two T20Is of the five-T20I series against India. Veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell who sustained a wrist injury while bowling in the nets in New Zealand continues to be on the sidelines.
Josh Inglis has returned to the squad after recovering from calf strain. Nathan Ellis has been called back as well. Wicketkeepers Alex Carey and Josh Philippe have been dropped from the T20I squad. Philippe who scored an unbeaten 123 against India A in the unofficial Test series has been dropped. He was added to the squad as cover for the New Zealand series. Meanwhile, Carey will focus on red-ball cricket by playing in Sheffield Shield ahead of the Ashes at home.
The first T20I of the series against Suryakumar Yadav-led India is scheduled to be played at Manuka Oval, Canberra. The second T20I will be played at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne. The squad for the remaining three T20Is will be announced later.
"We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket," chair of selectors George Bailey said.
"The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it's an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead."
Cameron Green is a part of the ODI squad but won’t play the T20Is. He will play the Sheffield Shield, as part of preparations for the Ashes.
