Jasprit Bumrah storms into history books, becomes 1st ever Indian player to clock massive milestone

Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the undisputed star of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His performance was nothing short of exceptional, as he claimed an astonishing 32 wickets in just nine innings at an average of 13.06.

Jasprit Bumrah etched his name in history by surpassing a 47-year-old record. He surpassed the legendary Bishan Singh Bedi to become the Indian bowler with the most wickets in a Test series away from home. Bedi had previously held the record with 31 wickets, achieved during India's tour of Australia in 1977-78.

'Despite India's 1-3 series defeat, Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged Player of the Series for his outstanding bowling show. The 31-year-old emerged as the leading wicket-taker of the series with 32 scalps under his belt. Also Bumrah's remarkable average of 13.06 ranks second only to Richard Hadlee's 12.15 in 1985 among bowlers who have claimed more than 20 wickets in a Test series in Australia.

Jasprit Bumrah scripted history by becoming the first Indian bowler to achieve the prestigious Player of the Series award in all three major cricketing nations: Australia, England, and South Africa. This remarkable feat underscores his status as a truly world-class bowler.

Jasprit Bumrah previously won the Player of the Series award during India's tour of England in 2022-23 where he took 23 wickets in 5 matches. Bumrah secured the Player of the Series award during India's tour of South Africa last year. He claimed 12 wickets in two matches, becoming the first and only Indian bowler to achieve this prestigious accolade in a Test series in South Africa

Jasprit Bumrah became the first Indian bowler to win a Player of the Series award in Test matches across three SENA nations (South Africa, England, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa). Also Bumrah joins an elite group of bowlers as he is only the second pacer, after Brett Lee in 2007-08, to win the Player of the Series award in the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
