The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025 is currently underway at the Optus Stadium in Perth. India, after winning the toss, opted to bat first but were bundled out for a meager 150 runs before the tea break on Day 1. Despite the team's poor performance, Rishabh Pant stood out with a brief yet impactful innings. During this innings, Pant achieved a historic feat by becoming the first player in the world to reach a significant milestone in the World Test Championship (WTC).
Rishabh Pant's 37-run knock in the first innings against Australia was historic. He became the first-ever wicketkeeper to score 2,000 runs in the World Test Championship. While England's Ollie Pope and New Zealand's Tom Latham have also surpassed 2,000 runs in the WTC, they have spent significantly fewer innings as designated wicketkeepers.
Pant's achievement is even more impressive considering he's only the third Indian batter, after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, to reach the 2,000-run milestone in the WTC.
Let's have a look at the list of Indian players with most runs for India in WTC history:
Rohit Sharma – 2685
Virat Kohli – 2432
Rishabh Pant – 2034
Shubman Gill – 1800
Cheteshwar Pujara – 1769
