Bangladesh register lowest Test total vs Australia.

In a series of surprising events, the momentum Bangladesh gained from their historic triumph in Darwin disappeared in the second Test. After stunning Australia to claim their maiden Test win in the series opener, the visitors endured a massive batting collapse in their next outing.

Bangladesh were dismissed for only 64 in the first innings, setting an unwanted record for the lowest Test score against Australia. It also stands as their third-lowest innings total since gaining Test status.

Mitchell Starc's record-breaking spell

Mitchell Starc led the charge with a fiery spell in the morning session, exposing Bangladesh's batting lineup by taking five wickets within just 22 deliveries. Pat Cummins complemented Starc from the other end, maintaining the pressure as the visitors struggled to find any rhythm.

Micthell Starc takes five-wicket haul

Bangladesh were reeling at a disastrous total after Mitchell Starc's opening burst reduced them to 12/5. Pat Cummins added to their problems with crucial strikes, before Taijul Islam and Shoriful Islam provided some late fightback. The pair built together a 25-run partnership for the final wicket, helping Bangladesh avoid falling below their lowest-ever Test total of 39.

The innings eventually ended at 64, with Starc returning outstanding figures of 6/12 from 10 overs. Cummins picked up three wickets, while Josh Hazlewood picked up the remaining scalp.

Forgettable record for Bangladesh in Test cricket

The 64-run collapse handed Bangladesh an unwanted record, marking their lowest total in Tests against Australia as well as their smallest score in the longest format on Australian soil.

However, it is not their worst batting performance overall in Test cricket. Bangladesh's lowest total remains 43, recorded against the West Indies in 2018, while they were also dismissed for 53 against South Africa in Durban in 2022.
