Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes that Mohammed Siraj's scathing send-off to Travis Head on Day 2 of the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match against Australia at Adelaide Oval was 'unnecessary'. Notably, Siraj used a yorker to hammer Head's stumps, dismissing him for 140 (141). After being dismissed, the fast bowler from India was seen exchanging a few words with Head.

Even the on-field umpires spoke with Siraj after the incident. Sunil Gavaskar, on the other hand, took offence at Siraj's theatrics and claimed that it was needless. The Indian legend went on to refer to Head as a local hero and said that Siraj did not get him out for a few runs so that he could celebrate too much.
"Unnecessary, if you ask me, the man's got 140, he hasn't got four or five or something. You got 140 you're giving him a send-off totally uncalled for totally uncalled for. No wonder he's getting the stick from the crowd. He's a local hero, Travis Head is a local hero and after scoring 100, if he had even just applauded, Siraj would have been a hero for the entire crowd, instead of giving him a send-off, he's become the villain. Look, the man's got 140, like I said, if he got out for one or two, then you give him a send-off in a completely different," said Gavaskar on Star Sports.
Head opens of exchange with Siraj
Travis Head talked about the exchange with the Indian pacer after the play of the second day. Head said that he was telling Siraj well bowled but the pacer thought otherwise. He also expressed being disappointed and took a shot by saying
"I said well bowled but he thought otherwise when he pointed me towards the sheds. I thought that he got a little bite back from me. Slightly disappointed with the way that transpired with a couple of past innings but it is what it is. If they want to react like that and that's how they want to represent themselves, then so be it," said Head at the end of Day 2.
