India's in-form pacer Mohammed Siraj struck early in the 50-over per side pink-ball warm-up game at Manuka Oval, Canberra. After Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first, Sira got the wicket of Matt Renshaw in the fifth over of the innings.
Earlier, in the first over, Renshaw pulled out of his stance as there was someone walking behind the bowler's arm. Siraj was not in a good mood as he had to walk back to the start of this run-up without bowling the ball.
In his third over, Siraj troubled Renshaw. He bowled it just outside the off stump looking for an outside edge. He succeeded on the fifth ball as Renshaw edged one to second slip fielder Devdutt Padikkal. The southpaw departed after scoring five runs from 20 balls. Siraj conceded 18 runs in his first spell of seven overs including one maiden. Akash Deep got the wicket of Jayden Goodwin but conceded 41 runs.
Rain interrupted play soon after. It is to be noted that the entire Day 1's play was abandoned due to relentless rain which was followed by both teams agreeing to play a 50 overs per side game on Day 2. However, the short rain interruption led to it being 46 overs per side.
Siraj's pink-ball debut
Siraj who came back to form with five wickets in India's dominating win at Perth Stadium is set to play his first pink-ball Test. The second Test of the series is scheduled to start at Adelaide Oval on December 6.
