India are 51/4 at stumps Day 3.

Star Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh stated that he wanted his teammates to laugh and be amused after he made a spectacular catch to dismiss India's Shubman Gill on Day 3 of the Brisbane Test. In addition to contributing to India's early batting difficulties in their first innings, Marsh's brilliant play on the field—which included an earlier catch to eliminate Yashasvi Jaiswal—guaranteed Mitchell Starc two crucial wickets.

Marsh reveals reason for catch

Australian were off too a good start with Marsh easily taking a catch at short mid-wicket as Starc removed Jaiswal on the second ball of India's innings. Gill was sent back to the pavilion when Marsh, a moment later, stunned everyone by diving to his left at gully to make a superb catch from Starc's bowling. Marsh humorously acknowledged during the post-day press conference that he had always been anxious when fielding in gully and that the purpose of his celebration was to lighten the mood among teammates, who frequently make fun of his agility.

"I think it (the celebration) is just for enjoyment. Trying to provide a little bit of a laugh. The boys are always into me for how slow I move, and how I can't jump or move on the field. So anytime I can do something like that, I probably didn't even need to dive to be fair, but I thought it had a bit of a moment, and it is a fun team," Marsh said.

Marsh made the incredible catch and ran towards Starc in a frenzied celebration, soon accompanied by ecstatic teammates who gave him heartfelt pats on the head in congratulation.

India top-order collapse

Except for the second innings in Perth, Indian batting has failed to reach the 200-run milestone during the current trip, leaving them looking in ruins. India's technical shortcomings have been exposed thus far with scores of 150, 487/6, 180, and 175 in the four innings.

On Day 3, Mitchell Starc returned to action and once again gave Australia a great start by forcing Yashasvi Jaiswal to hit to Mitchell Marsh at mid-wicket with the second delivery of the innings. As he pursued a wide delivery from Starc that found his thick outside edge, Shubman Gill also left cheaply. Mitchell Marsh made an amazing grab leaping to his left as the ball flew towards the slips.

In the first session, Australia made yet another significant breakthrough when Josh Hazlewood exposed Virat Kohli's weakness outside off stump once again. As he discovered his edge, Pat Cummins also fired Rishabh Pant for the third time in the series. At stumps, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are on the pitch and will resume the play on Day 4.
