India's World Cup-winning speedster Ashish Nehra lavished praise on Jasprit Bumrah for his match-winning performance in the first Test match against Australia. He also reckoned that even an auction purse of Rs 520 crore wouldn’t be enough for the teams to buy him. Team India led by Bumrah defeated Australia by 295 runs in the first Test match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 to take 1-0 lead in five Test match series.
After India's dominating win against Australia under Bumrah's captaincy, Nehra said that on one can beat him. The Gujrat Titans (GT) head coach says that franchises will go berserk if India's bowling superstar enters in IPL auction.
"The way Bumrah led the team (in Perth) following the 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand on home soil, it's brilliant to witness. You can't beat Jassi! If Bumrah was in the auction, then anything would have happened. Even a purse of 520 crore would not have been enough for the IPL teams,” said Nehra on Star Sports.
Bumrah has been retained by Mumbai Indians for Rs 18 crore before the mega auction. He was given the highest amount among retained players in the franchise. Further speaking ahead, Nehra hailed Bumrah for handling the pressure of captaincy in Rohit Sharma’s absence.
"As a bowler Jasprit Bumrah has done this (taken wickets to win a match) numerous times. Rohit Sharma is not playing and you're captaining the team in the first match on the tour. Obviously, there has to be an extra amount of pressure. But the way Bumrah handled the pressure it's extremely praiseworthy," Nehra added.
Bumrah picked up eight wickets in the Perth Test and he was awarded 'Player of the Match' for his iconic performance against the baggy greens.
Team India are currently preparing for the second Test match which is scheduled to start from December 6. Rohit Sharma who missed the first Test has joined the side and is all set to lead the team in the pink ball day/night Test.
