Rohit Sharma decided to opt out of the grand finale of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025's at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). In Rohit Sharma's absence Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian side in the fifth and final Test against Australia on January 4.

Rohit didn't participate in the match but couldn't help himself from entering the field to give some valuable inputs to the team. On Day 2 of the fifth Test against Australia, Rohit was seen walking into the field and have a chat with his teammates during the drinks break.
Rohit, having opted to rest for the betterment of the team, made his way onto the field and was seen interacting with stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah. Notably, he did not carry any drinks or umbrellas, suggesting his primary purpose was to discuss strategies with the team.

India's star batter Suresh Raina lauded Rohit's gesture as he took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to term Hitman 'a true legend'.

"Rohit Sharma exemplifies leadership through honesty and selflessness. Despite personal challenges, he prioritizes team success, stepping aside when necessary. His leadership in the current Test series reflects his unwavering dedication to India’s success. A true legend of the game," Raina wrote on X.

India dominate Australia


Talking about the match, India bowled out Australia for 181 to take a four-run lead in the first innings on Day 4 of the Sydney Test. India rode on Mohammed Siraj (3/51), Prasidh Krishna (4/42), and Nitish Reddy's (2/32) to keep Australian batters in check. Captain Jasprit Bumrah too contributed with 2/33 but had to leave the field for scans due to an unspecified injury. Beau Webster was the top scorer for Australia as the he cracked a brilliant 57 off 105 balls on his debut.
