Australia captain Pat Cummins lavished massive praise on India's veteran cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin after the off-spinner announced his retirement from international cricket. The veteran off-spinner played 106 Test matches and picked up 537 wickets scoring 3503 runs in the longest format of the game. The star cricketer made his Test debut in 2011 against West Indies.
India's legendary spinner announced retirement after the third Test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 ended in a draw due to rain in Brisbane's Gabba. After the third Test match, Australian captain Cummins hailed India's great spinner on his retirement.
"He's obviously been a fantastic player all around the world -- there aren't that many finger spinners that have that kind of longevity," Cummins told reporters.
The Australian captain hailed Ashwin as "one of the all-time greats" of the game. "He'll go down as one of the all-time greats. There's a massive respect from our change room for the career that he's had."
Ashwin who was part of India's Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 squad was featured in just the pink-ball Test as Washinton Sundar was benched after India's massive 295-run win in Perth. He missed the spot in the third Test match as Men in Blue featured with veteran Ravindra Jadeja.
With the series level at 1-1, Team India will now lock horns against Australia for the fourth Test match which is scheduled to take place at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne from December 26. Team India needs to win the remaining Test matches of the ongoing series to seal their spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final which is scheduled to take place in England next year.
