India vs Australia's third Test match has ended without a result as rain played spoilsport at Gabba Stadium in Brisbane. The five-Test match series remained level at 1-1 despite Australia skipper Pat Cummins making a huge bid to push for a result after deciding to declare on 89/7 and invite India to chase down a 275-run target.
The draw in the third Test match also ensured that India kept itself in the race for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which is scheduled to take place next year in England. Now, the Men in Blue need to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 by a 3-1 margin to qualify for the WTC final directly and hope that South Africa wins at least one Test against Pakistan in their two-match series.
If India wins this series with 2-1 margin then they would need the Australia and Sri Lanka Test series to level at 1-1 or hope that Sri Lanka wins the series by a 1-0 margin. If the Border-Gavaskar Trophy ends with a 2-2 margin, then India needs Sri Lanka to beat Australia by 1-0 or 2-0 in their two-match Test Series at home.
