Riding on his robust knock, Jadeja notched up a historic record against his name

India's star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja once again turned India's savior with a splendid knock which not only bolstered team's position in the second Test against England in Birmingham but also notched up a remarkable feat, setting a new world record in the World Test Championship (WTC). Riding on his impressive 89-run knock, Jadeja became the first player in the history of the WTC to achieve the double of scoring 2000 runs and taking 100 wickets. Jadeja reached this milestone during a crucial juncture in the second Test against England, needing 79 runs to reach the 2000-run mark. He proved his batting prowess by coming in at a challenging situation with India at 211/5, after the team had lost some quick wickets and there were concerns of a lower-order collapse similar to the one experienced in the Headingley Test.

However, Jadeja forging an impressive partnership of 203 runs with captain Shubman Gill. Throughout his WTC career, Jadeja has played 41 matches, accumulating 2010 runs with an average of nearly 40. His batting record includes three centuries and 13 half-centuries. Simultaneously, he has also been a valuable bowler, picking up 132 wickets at an excellent average of 25.92, including six five-wicket hauls and six four-wicket hauls.

Just as Jadeja appeared to be on track to score his fifth Test century, he was dismissed on 89 by a sharp delivery from Josh Tongue. Despite missing out on his century, his significant 203-run partnership with Gill played a crucial role in solidifying India's position in the match. This partnership helped India cross the 400-run mark, with the team adding over 100 runs in a single session.

As of Day 2's lunch, India were placed at 419/6 with Shubman Gill (168*) and Washington Sundar (1*) still unscathed on the crease.
