Former England captain Michael Vaughan praised the Ben Stokes-led side for their incredible performance on Day 2 of the first Test match against India at the Yorkshire Cricket Ground in Leeds, England. Day 2 of the first Test match favoured England as centurion Ollie Pope produced their own parade to reach 209 for three at the end of the second day of the first Test.
Pope (100 batting) and Harry Brook (0) were at the crease when the stumps were drawn with England whittling down India’s lead to 262 after the visitors made 471 in their first innings. Vaughan suggested England batters to take calculated risk while facing Jasprit Bumrah on Day 3.
"Windy day in Leeds .. Incredible day for England yesterday and you feel if they have a similar day today they could win this Test .. it’s a long shot but it’s possible .. all depends on Bumrah .. how they play him .." posted Vaughan.
Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer on Day 2 of the second Test match against England, picking up three wickets. While chasing 471, England were off to a bad start as Bumrah picked Zak Crawley's wicket in the first over. After Crawley's wicket, Ben Duckett (62) was the second one to be puzzled by Bumrah's bowling. Bumrah's third wicket was Joe Root, who managed to score just 28 runs.
The ongoing Test series between India and England is Bumrah's first assignment after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 where he was the highest wicket-taker with 32 scalps in five Tests.
Coming back to the match, the Day 3 of first Test between India and England is in favour of visitors as Prasidh Krishna picked up Ollie Pope's wicket in the first session and Mohammed Siraj got skipper Ben Stokes.
